Goodbye 2016 - Hello 2017

Well 2016, I'm not sure what to say here. It's not been the best year has it? There have been so many disastrous world events this year - I think we're all feeling a bit jaded.

Personally this year has had a lot of ups and downs for me, but overall I'm really looking forward to leaving this year behind. There's a great sense of optimism that January 1st brings - it's a clean slate. I'm ready for some reinvention and some self discovery this year. I'll get to my goals soon, but first...

A few highlights:

I saw some amazing concerts this year, including Metric, Years & Years and Bastille. I've been so lucky in this regard - artists that I had been dying to see all showed up in Portland this year! So far the only concert I have on my calendar for 2017 is Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Can't wait to see what else comes up!

I got the chance to do a lot of local travelling this year, with trips to Forks, WA and Lafayette, OR and well as some Portland tourist activities like Riding the OHSU tram and going to the Apple Tasting Festival. My favorite trip was definitely our family trip to Forks - we took my dad fishing and stayed in a little cabin and played lots of cards. It was so relaxing.

The holiday season was surprisingly festive for me this year - I hadn't really been feeling it in years past. I got to go home to Whidbey Island for the holidays and spend some time watching Lord of the Rings (annual tradition) and making enchiladas (Christmas tradition). I also did my 3 weeks of Treatmas - posting a new baked treat every Monday and Thursday in December was a fun challenge for me and something I would definitely like to do again next year!

Now I'm off to spend my New Year's weekend planning for 2017 - goals I want to achieve, dreams I want to work towards, and maybe a couple of resolutions too.  I'm also going to be cleaning my apartment because the New Year feels like a good time to get rid of old vibes and dust and let the fresh air of the New Year in.

See you soon!
