All things amber...

Amber has become my signature gemstone over the years. Though it's called a gemstone, it's not really a stone at all. Amber is fossilized tree sap - the same stuff they found dinosaur DNA in Jurassic Park. My obsession began when my mom gifted me two amber rings that had been in the family - I've been collecting ever since. I think it partially has to do with the similarity in color with my hair (maybe's it's some sort of buried narcissism thing, ha!). I always know that amber will suit my skin tone and my hair color no matter what I pair it with.

Recently my love of amber has expanded into makeup and fragrance. I've always wondered how they get the scent of amber into candles and perfume, and I was surprised to learn that it's usually not made of actual amber at all! Amber scents are characteristically musky, warm, and rich, so many different types of scents such as natural resin, vanilla, and clove are combined for this effect.

I'm very particular about the color of amber and the style of jewelry I collect, so I've only added a few select pieces so far, but I am looking forward to growing this collection over my lifetime.
